2020 Mark Brody Memorial Food Drive

Through the end of September 2020, the AKPA will be collecting donations that will be used to purchase 'dialysis friendly' food.

The Mark Brody Memorial - How it Began

After Mark Brody passed away, his family approached the AKPA with a small pot of money to create something positive for Alaska's Kidney Patients - they talked about his struggles with his 'kidney friendly' diet that was pretty restrictive and how challenging it was for him to find the money to buy the protein rich foods he needed while on dialysis.  Mark was a pretty typical Alaskan on dialysis. Most live on a limited income and some months they have to choose between medicine or food.  The Mark Brody Memorial Kidney Walk was born that day, but last year the AKPA partnered with GCI to have an 'interGCI' food drive. The dialysis units were thrilled with the GCI employees' food contribution for their patients. Plans were made for the 2020 Mark Brody Memorial Food Drive to open the food drive statewide. And with Covid, plans have changed.

The 2020 Mark Brody Memorial Food Drive is raising money for much need nutrition and food for dialysis patients in Alaska, but there will be no food items collected only monetary donations. The AKPA will be stocking food cupboards at all Alaska dialysis centers.

Help give Alaska's dialysis patients the kidney-friendly food

they need to live their best life.
